Mariposa Gardening

Design + Build Process

How do you create your designs?

First, we work with you to determine your primary garden needs and requirements.  Then we sketch out and present to you three conceptual designs illustrating different ways to create the garden you desire.  From the concepts, we create a final design that synthesizes your feedback.  Upon completion of the final design, we present you an original color drawing, a list of ecological benefits, a visual plant list, and a bid for installation.

Do you install hardscapes as well as plants?

Yes. We are a team of skilled craftspeople. Our work includes stone and brick patios, stone walls, fences, arbors, fountains, sculptures, and more. All of our installations are created for their durability as well as their artistry.

What if we need help with plants, but don’t want to change the hardscape?

We will work with you in a couple of ways. First, we provide you with a list of plants appropriate for your site, at a set price.  Then, depending on your requirements, we will purchase plants for you and our design team will come and lay them out.

Do you do maintenance?

Generally we only do maintenance on the designs that we have created. However, if you have a really interesting garden, or you need to make improvements on an existing garden without a full re-design, we will work with you.

How much do your services cost?

Design work is billed by the hour.  The number of hours a design takes depends on the size of the parcel, the number of different elements to be integrated into the design, and the amount of client/designer communication during the process.
Installation costs also vary depending on scope of the job.  Factors that effect cost include: project size, stonework, woodwork, and size of planted areas vs. open areas. The type of materials chosen also greatly influences the cost. Before we begin an installation, we provide you bid and contract detailing the work to be done and the total price of the project.
