About the role: The Garden Care Co-Lead is responsible for managing the Mariposa maintenance crew and overseeing the work that keeps all of our gardens beautiful and thriving year round. The Garden Care Co-Lead reports directly to the Garden Care Manager and assists in overseeing the Garden Care department, as well as collaborating as needed with the Designer, Project Manager, and General Manager to ensure the original design is maintained and the department is growing in both profit and proficiency in our work.

Responsibilities:
- Garden Care Expertise: Assist in overseeing daily operations of the maintenance department, ensuring meticulous care for all gardens year-round. Expertise in pruning, seasonal cleanups, soil health upkeep, and irrigation practices is crucial for vibrant landscapes. Lead the team in implementing various ecological practices like companion planting, organic pest management, and utilizing native plants to create thriving ecosystems within each garden. Use expertise to guide the crew in maintaining a diverse range of plant species, promoting biodiversity and resilience.
- Irrigation Management: Stay updated on irrigation needs for each garden, adjusting watering schedules, and troubleshooting issues promptly to maintain optimal soil moisture levels. Tasks include installing valves, repairing and installing Netafim dripline systems, and implementing water-saving techniques to ensure efficient water distribution while minimizing waste.
- Crew Management and Training: Assist in managing time, timesheet approval, and scheduling for the department while supervising and training the maintenance crew. Lead and inspire the team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Empower team members through effective training and guidance to ensure efficient and skilled maintenance practices.
- Budget and Resource Management: Assist in managing budgets, expenses, and resource allocation for each job, ensuring profitability. Efficiently order materials, plants, tools, and equipment as needed.
- Record Keeping and Documentation: Assist in maintaining detailed records of garden progress and task timing for efficient planning and reference. Handle paperwork, such as receipts, permits, and invoices.
- Client Communication: Assist in maintaining clear and regular communication with clients, scheduling maintenance visits and consultations, and promptly addressing inquiries and feedback.
- Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Assist in ensuring proper care, organization, and storage of all maintenance tools and equipment. Regularly clean, oil, repair, and replace as needed.
- Nursery and Propagation: Assist in managing the Mariposa Nursery and Office Garden, maintaining healthy plants for clients and future projects. Propagate, prune, design irrigation, amend soil, fertilize, and conduct pest and disease checks as part of nursery care.
Skills & Experience
- Deep comprehensive understanding of drip irrigation systems and how to troubleshoot
- Experience with ecological gardening practices such as pest management without chemicals, knowing seasonal pruning techniques for habitat, etc
- Knowledge experience with growing and caring for of native plants and how to care for them
- Minimum of 3 years of crew management experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and employees
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients
- Experience with working in a multicultural and diverse environment
- Ability to get along well with others

- Pay Range: $24-35
