1. Implement the Build-Out of Our Gardens

• Perform a variety of physical tasks involving labor in construction projects, perform manual work, irrigation, planting, and grading. This could include:
• Shoveling, trenching, excavating and backfilling trenches and ditches; compacting and leveling earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes
• Moving yards of compost and drain rock in a wheelbarrow. Moving stone on a dolly
• Drip Irrigation layout
• Sheet Mulching
• Planting
• Driving trucks to carry materials and equipment from office to sites
• Loading and unloading materials and equipment from trucks

   2.  Site Mobilization and Demobilization

• Keep tools and equipment organized according to Mariposa standards. And replace broken or damaged tools.
• Keep the site tidy and free of garbage.
• Follow appropriate mobilization and demobilization processes.

   3.  Conduct Job Site Clean Up

• Clean construction sites of debris, trash, and hazardous materials.
• Pick up all tools, equipment and materials and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards

    4.  Perform Other Tasks as Required by The Project/Site with Safety as a Top Priority

• Be able to read and interpret construction plans
• Use hand tools to cut and shape material as per instructions
• Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
• Carry out proper material handling and storage
• Carry out all proper construction and installation methods necessary for the safe and successful completion of the project
• Clean and maintain construction equipment appropriately
• Ensure that all work is being done in compliance with the company’s protocols
• Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and bring issues to the immediate attention of the Project Manager or Crew Leader
• Comply with all local building codes, labor, and safety laws during construction
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team members

Required

• 3 years of landscape construction experience
• 3 years of planting, grading, and irrigation experience
• Valid California driver's license and be insurable by company insurance carriers
• Ability to carry 50 lbs on a regular basis

The Landscape Construction Project Manager oversees residential and small commercial landscape construction projects from design handoff through installation and final walkthrough. This role manages all aspects of planning, scheduling, budgeting, coordination, and installation, ensuring that projects are completed on time, on budget, and to Mariposa’s standards of excellence.

The ideal candidate thrives in collaboration, excels in communication, and enjoys working across departments. Organization, flexibility, and problem-solving are essential. This role requires regular onsite presence (minimum 4x per week) depending on project scope, crew needs, and project complexity. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position reporting directly to the Management Team.

The Project Manager ensures quality control, adherence to safety standards, code compliance, and clear communication with clients, designers, contractors, subcontractors, crew leaders, and the internal team. They also manage project budgets, schedules, subcontractor coordination, and change orders.

Project Planning & Coordination

• Plan, coordinate, and manage all phases of landscaping construction projects—from initiation through execution and closeout.
• Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, staffing needs, procurement strategies, and equipment requirements.
• Create detailed project schedules, Gantt charts, forecasts, sequencing plans, and installation calendars.
• Lead Scheduling Circle meetings and coordinate with all departments to avoid scheduling conflicts.
• Participate in internal meetings: Scheduling Circle, Design Meetings, Management Meetings, and Board Meetings (if Co-Owner).
• Develop tools and systems that keep projects on track and under budget.
• Attend project management training; acquire skills for field-conflict prevention and develop tools to improve planning and development of projects.

Estimating, Contracts & Documentation

• Prepare estimates, bids, and proposals for installation and special projects.
• Draft Exhibit A documents, landscape agreements, and full landscape packages.
• Prepare, review, and negotiate subcontractor contracts and vendor agreements.
• Maintain organized project documentation on Google Drive (contracts, drawings, templates, photos, spreadsheets, etc).
• Ensure on-site documents are delivered on time and are up-to-date. 
• File annual rollover updates for install department and ensure digital workspace tidiness.
• Scheduling & Resource Management
• Create and distribute weekly schedules across departments.
• Maintain the Install Calendar with daily tasks and updates.
• Schedule installation crews, irrigation assessments, and special projects.
• Reserve rental equipment, coordinate porta-potty and dumpster deliveries/pickups, and ensure all materials arrive onsite when needed.

Field Oversight & Quality Control

• Visit each job site daily (approx. 5 hours/day) to support crews and check progress.
• Ensure the site is ready for layout, designer reviews, inspections, and subcontractor work before arrival.
• Ensure all work is completed to Mariposa standards, accurately, safely, and to code.
• Supervise and support crew leaders and ensure team morale remains high.
• Lead weekly install team meetings.
• Ensure matrixes, Trello/Slack boards, and reports are up to date.
• Ensure that the company yard is safe and organized.
• Monitor equipment use and ensure proper licenses are obtained if needed for operation.
• Coordinate final walkthroughs with clients, designer, crew lead, project manager, and garden care manager and any other necessary party to produce punch lists.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

• Serve as the main point of contact for installation-phase clients, contractors, and design teams.
• Deliver weekly project progress reports and communicate schedule changes promptly.
• Address concerns professionally and skillfully, including challenging client situations.

Change Orders, Invoicing & Budget Management

• Draft, communicate, and document change orders and contract addendums.
• Track costs, monitor budgets, and ensure financial adherence.
• Prepare weekly invoicing for the Install Department.
• Identify risks early and implement proactive mitigation measures.

Seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Ecological Landscape Designer (Designer) and collaborate in growing the design department working on residential and small commercial landscape construction projects.  The position will be semi-remote, requiring the Designer to work mostly from home with visits to job sites throughout the design process. This role involves a diverse set of responsibilities outlined below. The Designer will be reporting to the Lead Designer and will be working closely with the Senior Designer and Design Assistant. The ideal candidate will have a passion for ecological design, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate proficiency in various design software and methodologies.  The Designer should also be open to learning Mairposa methods of installation through observing and working alongside our installation team. 

Client Engagement & Early-Phase Design

• Conduct and participate in client consultations, capturing detailed notes that guide design direction.
• Attend and contribute to concept presentations, documenting revisions and next steps.
• Support clear communication with clients, team members, and installers throughout the design process.

Site Assessments & Basemap Development

• Perform comprehensive site assessments with the Design Team, using standard surveying techniques to gather accurate field data.
• Produce accurate basemaps in SketchUp and LayOut, following Mariposa drafting standards.

Concept Development & Ecological Design

• Participate in collaborative design charrettes to develop 2–3 distinct, ecologically focused, site-responsive concepts that address client needs and offer a broad range of cost options.
• Develop concepts with the design team that incorporate water-harvesting principles and regenerative strategies to create resilient landscape designs.
• Use SketchUp to trace conceptual designs and calculate square footage for estimating collaboration with the Project Manager.
• Refine concept drafts in Notability with high-quality graphics and annotations in alignment with Mariposa’s graphic style.
• Produce sections, elevations, and perspective drawings that clearly express design intent.

Presentation Development

• Utilize Mariposa’s design templates to assemble polished concept presentations.
• Integrate relevant photos and precedent imagery from the Mariposa Google Drive database.
• Update presentations based on team and client feedback to support clear communication and decision-making.

Construction Documentation & Material Selection

• Under the Lead Designer’s guidance, produce comprehensive final landscape plans with polished graphics and concise annotations.
• Prepare construction documents using SketchUp, LayOut, Notability, and field notes.
• Complete permit applications and produce permit-ready drawings as required.
• Research materials and visit vendors to assist with material selection.

Field Coordination & Collaboration

• Observe and collaborate with installation crews to deepen understanding of construction methods and Mariposa’s standards.
• Lead design layout in the field and ensure accurate implementation.
• Communicate clearly with crew leaders to address questions, resolve issues, and provide clarifications.
• Assist with plant layout under the direction of the Senior Designer.
• Prepare for and participate in onsite project meetings throughout all project phases, recording field notes and punch lists and completing follow-up actions.

Standards, Systems & Department Development

• Contribute to the refinement and expansion of Mariposa’s Design Standards of Practice.
• Receive relevant trainings and attend workshops and networking events.
• Observe and work alongside the installation crew to gain a hands-on understanding of Mariposa’s installation standards.
• Collaborate with the design team to improve workflows, documentation, templates, and internal quality standards.
• Support the growth and evolution of the design department through shared leadership and consistent professional communication.

• Portfolio demonstrating strong ecological design sensibilities and experience with residential landscape design.
• 3–7 years of experience at a design-build firm or landscape architecture office.
• Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or related field preferred.
• Proficiency in SketchUp, LayOut, Notability, and iPad hand-sketching.
• Ability to produce clear construction documents with strong graphic and technical skills.
• Strong field knowledge of planting design, soil science, irrigation, grading, and construction methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary setting.
• Highly organized, reliable, and capable of managing multiple concurrent design tasks.
