On-Site Project Manager

Job Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to work in the field with the Install Team to manage and oversee all aspects of Mariposa’s multiple Residential Landscaping Projects from pre-construction through close-out. The Project Manager works onsite to manage staff and subcontractors, to ultimately deliver a well-built project on time, within budget and with the highest standard of quality. This role requires excellent organization, personnel management and time management skills. It also requires a fundamental understanding of the landscape construction industry and state codes for construction. The Project Manager leads teams, communicates with clients and coordinates with all parties. Our ideal candidate is interested in supporting our mission to strive to build outdoor environments that reveal the elegant beauty of nature by doing what’s right for the land.
This is a part time position at 12-16 hours per week.
Primary Responsibilities
Onsite Management
- Team Leadership: Manage and motivate crews, including crew leaders, subcontractors, and other professionals working on the project.
- In field Client Communication: Build strong relationships with clients, effectively communicating project progress, changes, and potential issues.
- Contractor Coordination: Manage contracts, communicate with general contractors, and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- On-Site Supervision: Oversee project execution, conduct site visits to ensure quality and compliance with project plans, and resolve on-site issues.
- Budget and Schedule Management: Monitor budgets, track project progress, and ensure projects stay on schedule.
- Resource Management: Manage project resources, including equipment, materials, and personnel.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all projects and field activities comply with safety regulations and standards.
- Quality Control: Adhere to the design, and ensure that all work is following local and state construction codes
- Documentation: Maintain detailed project documentation, including project plans, contracts, and change orders.
Internal Management
- Work in coordination with the Remote Project Manager by providing weekly updates of project progress.
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Strong Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead and motivate teams, and effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and staff.
- Project Management Skills: Experience in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
- Knowledge of Landscape Design and Construction: Understanding of landscape design principles, construction techniques, and plant materials.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve project challenges efficiently.
- Technical Skills: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience: Relevant experience in landscape construction, project management, or a related field.
- Certifications: (Optional) Certifications in project management, CA Landscape Contractors License, or related fields may be beneficial.
- Construction Documents: Can understand and read construction documents, lead design element layouts and accurately implement each element according to the design.

Job Description
The Garden Care field crew is responsible for making sure that the Mariposa Gardens are properly maintained and cared for. They will be working with the ecosystem and responding to make sure it is thriving and meeting Client needs.
- Be willing and able to follow the gardening methods/techniques that Mariposa practices (even though you are an experienced gardener)
- Use organic gardening practices pulling from a variety of disciplines: permaculture, horticulture, plants, biology, etc.
- Knowledge of CA native species
- Knowledge of habitat building and diversifying ecosystems
- Run, adjust, maintain residential scale irrigation systems. Includes assessment for leaks, testing the irrigation lines. Familiar with subsurface in-line irrigation is helpful
- Prune for the health and productivity of plants
- Communicate regularly, respectfully and effectively with the team and clients
- Stay on task and work quickly and efficiently
- Detail gardens to client’s individual desires
- Respect and appreciate plants and nature
- Flame weed, sheet mulch, compost, and mulch garden.
- Work with team to do small projects
- Take directions from supervisor
- Ability to work both independently and as a team
Qualifications & Required Skills
- 2+ years of ecological gardening experience
- A Smart Phone
- Must have a valid California driver's license and be insurable by company insurance carriers
- A vehicle that can be used to transport tools, plants, soil, and equipment. A truck makes it easier but is not necessary.

Ecological Landscape Install Crew Member
Mariposa Gardening & Design Cooperative is known for building beautiful gardens that bring the natural world to the built environment. We use organic gardening methods such as water harvesting and composting. We are looking for motivated workers to help us grow our company together. Employees of Mariposa are encouraged to join our team to become Worker-Owners.
The ideal candidate has skills and expertise in handling and operating tools and machinery required in the construction phase. Physical fitness and agility is key as this position requires carrying heavy materials and equipment almost on a daily basis.
Primary Responsibilities
Implement the Build-Out of Our Gardens
- Perform a variety of physical tasks involving labor in construction projects, perform manual work in stone work such as flagstone patios and pathways, dry stacked stone walls, irrigation, and landscaping. This could include:
- Shoveling, trenching, excavating and backfilling trenches and ditches; compacting and leveling earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes
- Drip Irrigation layout
- Sheet Mulching
- Planting
- Driving trucks to carry materials and equipment from office to sites
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment from trucks
- Erecting and dismantling temporary structures
Conduct Job Site Set Up
- Prepare sites to ensure optimization of construction work procedures
- Bring all necessary tools, equipment, and material on site and set up as required
- Assure all the necessary safety equipment for the job is present and in working order before proceeding with work
Conduct Job Site Clean Up
- Clean construction sites of debris, trash, and hazardous materials.
- Pick up all tools, equipment and materials and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Be able to read and interpret construction plans
- Use hand tools to cut and shape material as per instructions
- Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
- Carry out proper material handling and storage
- Carry out all proper construction and installation methods necessary for the safe and successful completion of the project
- Clean and maintain construction equipment appropriately
- Ensure that all work is being done in compliance with the company’s protocols
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and bring issues to the immediate attention of the Project Manager or Crew Leader
- Comply with all local building codes, labor, and safety laws during construction
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team member
Must have:
- 6 months or more of field/construction experience preferred
- Valid California driver's license and be insurable by company insurance carriers
- The ability to consistently carry 50 lbs on a semi-regular basis in order to fulfill the demands of the position
Strongly preferred:
- OSHA safety certified, First AID and CPR certified preferred
- GED + Vocational training or more desired
