About the role: The Design Assistant position is part-time at 10-12 hours/week. The priorities of the Design Assistant are to support the work of the Lead Designer throughout the design process from client consultations through to the installation phase. 


Design Assistant Tasks:

  • Collect site measurements, grades, and site photos and videos at site assessments
  • Ensure site data collected at the site assessment is filed in the appropriate folders
  • Digitize site plans using SketchUp and LayOut
  • Ensure that the final is to scale and a complete set of detailed basemaps are in the appropriate folder.
  • Keep all client information up-to-date and organized, using the existing organizational system
  • Ensure client dossiers are updated with relevant project updates
  • Print and laminate construction documents as needed and deliver them to the jobsites
  • Outline concepts and final plan elements in SketchUp to obtain square footages
  • Send out design agreements as needed
  • Attend and take notes at consultations and site meetings
  • Visit project site with design team to assist with layout
  • Perform other design related tasks as instructed by the Lead Designer
  • Participate in the construction of Mariposa gardens as part of the training program

  • Responsibilities, Qualifications & Benefits

    Required Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in SketchUp and Layout

    Preferred Experience:

    • Proficient in Notability or other design note-taking software
    • 1-3 years of experience working at a design-build company or in a landscape architecture firm
    • Time spent in gardens doing garden care and/or building garden spaces
    • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field
    • Proficiency in hand-sketching on an iPad

    Compensation, Benefits and Perks:

    • The hourly pay rate for this role is $23-27.
