Round the Block Farms

Fresh Food for You and for Our Community

Introducing Mariposa’s Round the Block Farms
Mariposa Gardening & Design developed Round the Block Farms to increase food security for our clients and community in the Bay Area. This service gives you everything you need to grow fresh, clean, nutrient dense fruits and vegetables just outside your door. We can maintain the garden and harvest the produce for you or you can manage your food garden yourself.

We take care of sourcing the materials and figuring out the perfect place to create your beds. We build the beds (or bed), adding soil and compost before we plant seedlings. The beds can include irrigation if you wish (or you can hand water and have a very satisfying connection with your garden as it grows). We can set up additional protection if you have known issues with gophers, rabbits, deer, or other garden marauders.

You can choose from any or all of the options below to create your own food resiliency garden:

  • Planter Beds: Woven wattle, stone, stock tank, or standard wood options, drip irrigation, and humane pest + rodent control available
  • Plants:  Nutrient-dense offerings such as leafy greens, potatoes, corn, and beans. Tomatoes, cucumbers, salad greens. Edible flowers, fruits and fruit trees. Culinary and medicinal herbs. Companion plants to encourage pollination and discourage garden pests. Three Sisters Gardens (mounds growing squash, corn, and beans) providing nutritionally complete food for whole families.
  • Food Forest: By using fruit or nut trees, we mimic a forest ecosystem that is planted with herbs, companion plants, edible flowers and plants that attract beneficial insects; can be interplanted with your existing garden flora.
  • Potato Boxes: deep containers for growing calorie-rich, nutritious potatoes
  • Honeybee Hives
  • Chicken Coops
  • Weekly, bi-Monthly or Monthly Subscription for Services: Includes weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, and seasonal replanting. Subscribers will get a weekly newsletter featuring recipes, tips for getting the most out of your garden, and ideas for sharing your bounty with your neighbors.

If you’re looking for something that’s not on the list, just ask and we’ll let you know if we can provide it. (Hint: we probably can)

Giving Back

One of our most cherished goals for Round the Block Farms is to support the overall health and resiliency of our community by helping those who have little or no access to fresh, nutritious food. We feel strongly that fresh locally grown produce should be available to everyone regardless of their financial situation. If you’d like to join us in this work, we’re offering opportunities to sponsor all or part of a planting bed installation and maintenance for people who qualify to receive the aid.
